Guide for the use of XBench 3.0 for Passolo projects with term base

To be able to load Passolo software strings into XBench, first, you have to export them from the Passolo program. 

To do so, open your Passolo file and select all the strings by clicking Ctrl+A on your keyboard. Then, with the right click of your mouse, press on Open String list. 

After this, filter the strings you need to export (for example ‘For Review’ unlocked strings) by clicking on View > Filter > ReviewUnlocked 

Select all the strings you need to export and go to Home > Translate > Store Translation (for Passolo 2011: Strings > Store Translation). 

Leave the default settings in place (see screenshot below) and select a folder where you want to export the strings to. 

Then press OK. 

This will create a .glo file. To use the file in Xbench, rename the extension to .txt. 

Once the strings have been exported, you can now import the txt file into XBench. 

Open the XBench program and click on Project (left corner) > New and a new window will appear in the XBench interface. 

Drag and drop the txt file on it (alternatively, you can upload it by pressing Addand a new window will appear. 

Mark Tab-delimited Text and check Ongoing Translation. Then press OK. 

The result will be like this: 

To add a term base (if the file extension is .glo, modify it to .txt) to the .txt file (exported Passolo file) in order to run a check regarding the compliance to the term base, you need to follow a procedure similar to the previous one: 

 

On the same window, press the bottom Add.  

A new window (Add Files to Project) will show up. If the option Tab-delimited text is not marked, mark it (highlighted in red in the screenshot below). 

If, instead, you have a term base in .TBX format, do not modify it to .txt, but mark TBX/MARTIF Glossary (highlighted in blue in the screenshot below). 

Then press Next. 

In the File List tab of the same window, press Add File. 

A new window Add Glossary will show up. Enter the term base that you would like to add in the File name box (leave the option Text/UTX files in the box Type of file) and press Open. 

The window Add Files to Project will show up again. In the File List tab, press Next. In the Priorities tab, mark the options Remove Duplicates and Key Terms. Also, choose the priority of the term base. If it is a client’s term base, choose High. Press OK. 

The window Project Properties will show up again; the result will be like this: 

Then press OK.

3. How to install a language in XBench to execute the QA check

If the target language that you need is not installed in XBench yet, you can download it by clicking on Tools > Spell-checking Dictionaries.

Choose the language you would like to download and click on Install. 

After a few seconds, a green mark will show up next to the chosen language, letting you know that the language has been successfully installed. 

Then press Close. 

 

Now you are ready to run a terminology QA in XBench. 

4. How to execute the XBench QA check

4.1 XBench Spellcheck and QA check 

The check Is subdivided into two phases: 

  1. Spellcheck 
  1. QA check covering errors regarding untranslated segments, inconsistencies in source and in target, numeric mismatch, alluppercase mismatches, alphanumeric mismatches, camelCase mismatches, tag mismatches as well as key term mismatches related to the non-compliance of the Passolo file to the added term base. 

To start the check, click on QA > Check Ongoing translation. 

4.2 How to execute XBench Spellcheck

After a few seconds required for Performing QA, a new window will appear which will show you all the spelling errors present in the Passolo file. 

You can decide what kind of words or segments to exclude in the spellcheck, by clicking on the “Exclusion” cell, on the left corner.  

However, we suggest you include everything, for a more accurate spellcheck. So do not check any of the cells and click on Apply.

You should verify the spelling errors one by one and clean up the errors on the original Passolo file. If you realize that one of them is a false error (or false positive), you can just skip it and move to the next one. 

Once the spellcheck has been completed, you can move on to the QA check by clicking OK, on the right corner. 

4.3 XBench QA check options

A new XBench interface will show up with the error categories and all the errors present in the Passolo file. Before starting the QA check, make sure that all the options and categories are correctly checked. 

In the Options category you can decide which segments include or exclude. For example, if the ICE matches were out of scope in the Passolo file, you can exclude them in the QA check. 

In the Check Group cell (on the left top), mark BasicContentChecklist and check all the sub-categories in the List of Checks as well. See screenshots below.

In the Spell-checking cell, make sure that the correct target language is included (to know how to install a language in XBench, see point 3). 

4.4 How to run XBench QA check

Once these steps have been fully completed, click on Ongoing Translation, on the right top. 

The strings that will show up are ordered by error category. You will find eventual inconsistencies in source and in target, alluppercase mismatches, alphanumeric mismatches, camelCase mismatches, numeric, tag mismatches as well as key terms mismatches related to the non-compliance of the Passolo file to the added term base. 

If you select one of the strings in Xbenchat the bottom, you will find more details about the error. 

5. How to save the XBench report

Once you have checked and cleaned up all the errors in the original Passolo file, you can run XBench again to see if all errors have been cleaned up. You can save the cleaned-up QA check file as follows: 

Click on QA > Export QA results or Ctrl + Q. 

Select the folder in which you would like to save the QA results. 

You can also decide in which format you can save the QA results. We suggest saving it in .html format.
